Meet our March Employee of the Month: Daniel Wright
Meet our March Employee of the Month, Daniel Wright! Daniel is one of our surveyors, a fast-paced, highly skilled role in the glass and glazing industry. In his role, he ensures compliance with building regulations for every project, such as fire egress, ventilation, and load bearing. He confirms all measurements submitted at the order stage as even a slight deviation would mean that the final product wouldn’t fit properly.
Daniel has been in the glass and glazing industry all his life. He studied joinery at college in Manchester and when he left, he worked for a joinery business that also installed uPVC.
Daniel quickly learned the ropes of the job and became a surveyor for both materials. When he moved to Lincolnshire, he started as a uPVC installer before progressing to a surveyor role with Tradeglaze in 2015. Having done the installation side of double glazing, Daniel has the benefit of having practical knowledge of product fitting and product limitations, which is very useful in his role as a surveyor.
We have caught up with Daniel to find out more about his role as a surveyor.
“Double glazing technology has changed no end since I started in the industry. Building regulations, new products, everything has progressed at a great speed. It makes my job interesting; I constantly keep learning so I can always be one step ahead. Tradeglaze has heavily invested in new machinery recently which means that we can now manufacture new products, such as flush casements, and also offer products with even better thermal efficiency qualities and lower U-values. Things never stand still and no two days are the same and I really enjoy that.”
“The demand for aluminium has really increased over the years. In the past, we would mainly install aluminium in commercial properties but it’s becoming more and more common in residential homes now. I work closely with our aluminium team, collaborating on design and dimensions to make sure our projects don’t exceed product limitations. This means that every installation is technically sound and of course, in line with building regulations. Fortunately, teamwork is something we do really well here at Tradeglaze!”
“Seeing projects that we have completed makes me feel proud. When I am surveying, I only see homes before the transformation so to get the opportunity to see the end product on our social media is a great feeling.”
“Three of the projects I recently surveyed were shortlisted for the national 2023 GGP Installer Awards, with one winning the Commercial Installation of the Year category and one awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Conservatory and Orangery Installation (under £35k) of the Year category. I am delighted that I have played my part in Tradeglaze and Jackson Windows earning these prestigious national accolades!”
With Daniel’s extensive experience, we asked him what advice he would give to someone considering joining the industry.
“Don’t limit yourself to one job. Try your hand at different jobs in the industry – design, installation, fabrication, or even estimating. The more you understand everyone else’s role, the better you will be in your own job.”
“We work on some very complex projects so it is important that you are able to work well in a team. Everybody plays their own part and we couldn’t do it alone”
“It’s a great industry to be in, perfect if you are looking for a job that will keep you on your toes! Your schedule can change very quickly so you have to be able to adapt and reprioritise on the go, but that’s what keeps it interesting.”
Outside work, Daniel loves spending time with his family, enjoying country walks, visiting parks and skate parks with his kids!
Congratulations on earning the Employee of the Month, Daniel. It is thoroughly deserved, we certainly would not be where we are without your experience, expertise, attention to detail, and willingness to step up and help others.
We are very lucky to have you as part of our team here at Tradeglaze and Jackson Windows!
